Millennial Wedding Trends

In the Vancouver area, summer weddings are hot! In spite of the season of love, and my dying passion to become an event planner, I decided to take a look into what wedding trends are on the rise here in Canada. Specifically cocktail weddings.

It seems as though most younger couples are shying away from the traditional wedding for a less formal, fun-inspired, cocktail-style wedding. While some may think millennials are too “attention deficit” prone to withstand long ceremonies and traditional service, others may argue that it is due to a generation very centered around partying, fun and living in the moment. Another reason, perhaps, is because a cocktail-style wedding is much less costly than the formal. By using the same venue for both the wedding and reception cuts costs. Statistically, venue costs account for half of the average wedding budget. Fortunately, many venues have options for adding catering, simple décor and music or sound system access. Although the venue’s décor and food may not be as fancy as what you can buy for big bucks, it is usually more than suitable enough for your cocktail-style wedding.

Another trend that seems to go hand-in-hand with informal cocktail weddings is bridal parties wearing mismatched dresses and not conforming to the usual same hairstyle for each member. Being a part of a wedding party is a big thing and every person in that party wants to look their absolute best. Well, we all know everybody is different and sometimes a style that look super hot on one bridesmaid may look rather unattractive on another. By allowing the ladies to pick a dress of their liking will guarantee confident bridesmaids walking down that aisle!

Although different dresses will give the bridal party a unique look, there is an extent to which it should be taken. Try to keep to the theme and color scheme of the wedding.
